The Office

So I spend about half of my week in the office and half of the week out on the road visiting the teams and going to meetings. I personally prefer being on the road over sitting behind a desk.

Because my boss is gone for a month in Australia, I have his office until he returns. I, the young intern still in college, I love walking past all of the secretaries working in their cubicles without privacy for the last 50 years into my own private office with a desk, reclining rolly office chair, corner table (for my clients of course), library full of books and secret stash of candy, and a computer. I plop down nearly falling out of my chair and flip on my music.

I start with the email immediately, but by the time it hits 9:49 am, I'm already watching the clock for lunch break. I stare at the computer screen trying to think of just the right phrase. Have you ever stared at a screen so long that you began to see visions on the screen? I need a break so I pretend I have to go to the restroom. Today, when i went to the restroom, someone before me left the toilet clogged. Alicia, of course, thought she could flush it. The water rose as normal but then the water continued to rise. Water nearly overflowing, I ran out of the bathroom asking the secretaries what the front desk number is to get maintenance. I dial as they smirk.

"Laura, can you send maintenance upstairs quick? This is Alicia. Yeah the toilet is overflowing...no, not on the floor yet. Thanks."

Of course, everyone thinks the mess is mine. gross.

Lesson Number One. Never report clogged toilets especially if it's not your own.
